How to optimize your site for the best Google results possible.
If you want to leverage the power of Google and its amazing search engine technology to your advantage, it pays to learn about SEO or search engine optimization... that is if you have a Website and you want more traffic and to rank at the top of Google search results for your keyword searches.
The first thing you want to make sure is the title of each page has the right keywords in it. Look up at the top of this page and see what the title is in the browser bar above the location URL. It reads "Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for the best Google results possible". Notice that I have duplicated that exact title in the headline of this page. You will also want to have the text on the page loaded with those keywords, meaning use SEO, search engine optimization and Google results wherever you can. Google will be taking your page title keywords and counting how many times they appear on the page to score the relevancy of the page for, in this case, SEO, search engine optimization and Google results. The Google ranking formulas will give you points for "SEO", "search engine optimization" and "Google results" each time they appear.
If we have done our job, you should be seeing Google Ad Sense ads relating to "SEO", "search engine optimization" and "Google results" on this page. That is just the beginning. Google will also rank you against other pages with "SEO", "search engine optimization" and "Google results" as keywords and compare the keyword scores, title, headline on the page, etc. If everything is equal, they will take into account the number of links your page has from other sites. They think this is a recommendation and it sort of is one, except that everyone is soliciting links, trading links, setting up three-way links to spike their Google rankings.
Contrary to popular opinion, metatags will not help your page rank or scoring with Google, but if all other factors land you in the search results, your metatag description will show up under your link so it may help entice the searcher to click your link. Soooo, take some time to craft a compelling sentence describing the valuable information that awaits them on your site. The META tag building tool makes it easy to generate the code for your page.

SEO is not simple.
There is a lot of misinformation out there. For instance, some SEO companies will tell you you need meta coding in your pages. This code lets you put a page description, a list of keywords, the author of the page and other information on the page. This information is not for people, but the search engines. You can even tell them how often to come back and scan your page for updates. One thing though, Google doesn't use this code to determine what is on your page or to rank the page. Why? Because people lie. Google decides what's on your page and at the most may use your metacode description in the search results it returns to people searching the internet.

Google AdWords Aren't
Some SEO "experts" combine paid ads into a campaign to improve your ranking in search results. That's stacking the deck. Paid ads aren't optimizing your site, they are paying for traffic. Paid links are another story. They help your ranking, but organic SEO is cheaper and works longer term. However, AdWords work. You set the bid price for your ads, write the headlines and text, design the landing page you link to and decide what Zip codes to target for paid clicks. You are in control. You can even choose to have image ads only and skip the text. I wouldn't recommend it though since I have found that text ads get clicked on more often. Go ahead and prove me wrong.
